Soy Candle Care and Tips
- TRIMMING YOUR WICK
Before each burn, trim your wick to 5mm. This will help to maintain a quality flame, along with a cleaner, brighter and smoother burn throughout the candle’s life. We recommend using a trimmer to trim your wick. However, a small sharp scissors or nail clippers will also work. If your wick is not trimmed, it may be heavy with leftover carbon and may produce smoke. Please note that your candle has been pre-trimmed for its first burn.
- BURNING YOUR CANDLE
Place your candle on a level fire-resistant surface and keep it free from any wick trimmings, soot droppings or matches. Burn your candle for 2-4 hours at a time so as to ensure the melt pool reaches the edge of the container / glass before extinguishing. This will help to prevent what is known as a tunnelling effect, and is especially important for the first burn We advise not to burn your candle for longer than the maximum time of 4 hours.
- EXTINGUISHING YOUR FLAME
When extinguishing your candle, it is best to use a candle snuffer. Blowing out your candle is not recommended as the liquid wax may splatter and your wick may continue to glow and omit a small amount of smoke. A snuffer will also help prevent your wick from drifting off centre.
- STORING YOUR CANDLE
Store your candle in a cool and dry place in your home as too much heat can soften or melt the wax. Keep your candle out of direct sunlight as this may cause the scent to fade. Avoid drafty areas, as your candle will burn better in still air. Place a lid or dust protector on your container after use.
